Transfer of evolved gases in TGA to GC/MS with the possibility of “storing” an aliquot of gas during the thermal experiment

Thermogravimetry combined with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (TGA-GC/MS) can be the ideal choice for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of evolved gases.
During the thermal degradation cycle of materials, the composition of the evolved gas changes too quickly for a GC/MS analysis in its standard configuration. Specifically, the detailed study of complex profiles, characteristic of thermal analysis, requires:

more than one sampling of the gases emitted during the TGA experiment the storage of the “taken” samples their sequential transfer to the GC/MS for the respective chromatographic separations and mass identifications.

The SRA Instruments IST1 TGA-GC/MS interface has been designed to meet the needs of qualitative and quantitative determinations of compounds emitted from the sample following thermal reactions, overcoming the limitations imposed by the time of chromatographic separation.
The IST1 interface allows you to store 1 aliquot of the gas evolved during the thermal experiment in TGA and inject it into the GC/MS automatically.
The gaseous sample is transferred from the storage interface to the GC by heating.
All transfer lines are temperature-controlled.

Technical features:

  • 1 storage loop
  • Heated transfer lines: 250 °C
  • Loop volume: 250 µL (in standard configuration, different volumes optional)
  • Multi-system compatibility
  • Full automation
  • Lines and loops treated with Sulfinert.

SRA IST management Software:
The software developed by SRA allows you to change the storage sequence, save methods, view the instrument status and automatically manage the start of GC analyses.
