The GERSTEL PYRO option for the TDU2 thermal desorber allows pyrolysis and transfer to GC/MS of solid and liquid samples.
The TDU/PYRO system is available in a manual version or in an automated version in combination with the GERSTEL MultiPurpose Sampler MPS.
With just one method and one sequence table the analyst can manage the complete process: thermal desorption, pyrolysis, and GC/MS analysis.
The pyrolyzer is very easy to use: the sample is placed in a special container, inserted into the Pyrolysis/TDU adapter and placed in the multifunctional Sampler PYRO tray. The sample is then fed into the TDU desorber.
The TDU module is installed directly above the CIS cryofocused injector. The connection between desorber and injector is direct, liner-in-liner technology, without the aid of transfer-lines, for an efficient transfer without risk of contamination between the analysis of one sample and another.
The pyrolysis products refocused in the CIS injector, only at the end of the experiment the injector is heated quickly for the narrow band transfer of the analytes on the column.
The PYRO unit performs standard pulsed pyrolysis at temperatures from 350 ° C to 1000 ° C. The temperature can vary from sample to sample to:
-
Analyze different types of samples in a single sequence
- Perform sequential pyrolysis on multiple identical samples in series
- Perform fractional pyrolysis on a single sample in order to obtain more in-depth information
- In addition to pulsed pyrolysis, heating can be programmed in a range from 0.02 to 100 ° C / s.
Optimal analysis conditions can be chosen for each sample type and matrix. A pre-thermal desorption from room temperature up to 350 °C can be performed before the pyrolysis experiment to purge VOCs from the sample or for solvent removal.
Applicable pyrolysis techniques:
-
Pulsed pyrolysis
- Sequential pyrolysis
- Fractionated pyrolysis
- Thermal desorption with solvent vent and sample pyrolysis.
