Photo Ionization Detector PID mod. 4430

The OI Analytical Model 4430 Photo Ionization Detector PID for GCs selectively reacts with aromatic and olefinic hydrocarbons in the presence of alkanes and other saturated hydrocarbons.
The detector consists of an ionization chamber, UV lamp, column adapter and uses a self-contained high voltage power supply for the UV lamp. It features a unique, patented principle (Window SweepTM) of sample flow deflection that minimizes fouling of the UV lamp window, and the resulting maintenance and calibrations, and extends overall lamp life, and enables the analysis of photosensitive compounds, which would otherwise polymerize on the window surface. The sample passes through the detector reaction chamber where it is constantly irradiated with high energy ultraviolet light. When the compounds present have an ionization potential lower than the radiated energy (10.2 electron volts for the standard lamp) they are ionized. The ions thus formed are collected in an electric field producing an ionic current proportional to the concentration of the compound. The detector is distinguished by:

  • Window Sweep UV-lamp design minimizes fouling on the window surface
  • Lampsaver™ circuit extends the life of the lamp by turning it off when not in use direct interface to ELCD, XSD, or FID for tandem detection systems, using a single channel
  • special Detector Vent to evacuate unwanted solvents
  • compatible with capillary and packed columns.
