Benchtop FTIR Instrument

The Agilent Cary 635 ultra-compact benchtop FTIR spectrometer redefines laboratory efficiency standards, combining enhanced analytical sensitivity with a robust, space-saving design. It is the ideal solution for obtaining rapid and reliable qualitative and quantitative answers on solids, liquids, powders, and gases. Thanks to a guided workflow and the unique modularity of its sampling interfaces, the Cary 635 FTIR system drastically reduces staff training time and minimizes operational costs, ensuring maximum daily productivity.

Key Features

  • Ultra-compact and lightweight – The world's smallest benchtop FTIR spectrometer fits seamlessly into any laboratory workspace, delivering highest-quality results and true portability wherever analysis is required.
  • Long-term reliability – The robust, field-proven design ensures consistent and reliable analytical performance over time, even under harsh environmental conditions with high humidity levels.
  • Flexibility – FTIR sampling modules can be swapped in seconds without optical realignment, allowing immediate response to changing analytical needs and real-world application challenges.
  • Optimized performance – Sampling modules featuring a 25 mm optical aperture deliver top-tier analytical performance, comparable to much larger laboratory FTIR systems.
  • Unmatched simplicity – The instrument's intuitive design and the guided workflows of MicroLab software enable immediate and secure operation for any user, minimizing training time.
  • No contamination, no leaks – Unique DialPath and TumblIR technologies eliminate the need for traditional, complex liquid transmission cells, wiping out leakage risks and simplifying cleanup.
  • (Bio)Pharma ready – The instrument fully complies with the performance specifications of major global pharmacopeias. MicroLab software integrates dedicated protocols to optimize and streamline FTIR validation procedures.
  • Compliance management – The optional MicroLab Pharma software supports regulatory compliance and ensures maximum data integrity, meeting the traceability requirements of regulated industries (such as 21 CFR Part 11).

Interchangeable Sampling Modules

The extreme versatility of the Agilent Cary 635 FTIR relies on a wide range of "snap-in" sampling interfaces. These can be exchanged in seconds without tools and feature automatic, permanent alignment.

  • ATR (Attenuated Total Reflection) Modules – Available with single-crystal Diamond, Germanium (Ge), or Zinc Selenide (ZnSe). They are the ideal choice for fast, non-destructive analysis of nearly all types of solids, liquids, powders, gels, and pastes.
  • Multi-Reflection ATR Module – Employs a long ZnSe crystal to increase the effective optical pathlength. This module offers exceptional analytical sensitivity for measuring ultra-low concentration components within liquids, pastes, and gels.
  • DialPath Module – A unique Agilent technology designed for liquid transmission. It allows users to instantly select different fixed pathlengths simply by rotating a dial, eliminating the need for traditional, fragile demountable or flow cells.
  • TumblIR Module – Allows a drop of liquid sample to be applied directly onto a rotating mechanism for ultra-fast transmission analysis, significantly speeding up cleanup times and eliminating leak risks.
  • Standard Transmission Module – Designed to accommodate traditional sample holders for KBr pellets, thin films, salt plates, or gas analysis cells.
  • Diffuse and Specular Reflectance Modules – Suited for analyzing surfaces, raw powders, or thin coatings and reflective materials (available in 10- and 45-degree geometric configurations).

Application Fields

Thanks to its exceptional versatility, robustness, and modularity, the Cary 635 FTIR spectrometer perfectly addresses the analytical needs of multiple industrial and research sectors:
  • Chemicals and Polymers – Rapid identification of incoming raw materials, conformity verification of finished products, analysis of plastics, resins, additives, and monitoring of polymerization reactions.
  • (Bio)Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Industry Regulatory-compliant quality control (powered by MicroLab Pharma software), authentication of excipients and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), and screening of cosmetic formulations directly on the production line.
  • Agri-food Sector – Rapid quantitative and qualitative analysis of ingredients, food authenticity monitoring (anti-counterfeiting), testing of edible oils and fats, and measurement of sugars and acids.
  • Petrochemical and Energy In-service industrial lubricant condition monitoring (analyzing oxidation, nitration, and water levels), and qualification of fuels and biofuels.
  • Environment – Rapid, at-side screening of contaminants in environmental matrices, identification of microplastics, and analysis of gaseous emissions or industrial effluents.
  • Research, Academia, and Cultural Heritage – Ideal for academic laboratories due to its student-friendly ease of use, and perfect for non-destructive field analysis of historic pigments, varnishes, and art materials.
